Created to be the voice of the Jorge Amado House Foundation, the
literary journal Exu has been astonishingly successful since it
was first published, and has had print runs of up to 5,000 copies.
Because it is primarily aimed at
a demanding and hypercritical readership, Exu seeks to develop a
publishing and graphic line that meets the highest standards of
quality for its genre. It has been praised by opinion shapers and
critics, not only in Brazil but in the numerous other places where
it is published.
Although it has a list of subscribers
and is sold in book stores, the journal is mainly distributed directly
to opinion shapers such as authors, journalists, cultural institutions
and educational centers. This is because its editors want to make
sure that it reaches the widest possible readership, thereby increasing
the interest of advertisers and making Exu a financially independent
publication.
